It's clocked at 3.5 with a 1.45vcore.. my idle is about 39-42 depending on my room temp and load is about 60-65. Im running an Antec 900 with a Thermaltake V1. This seems a bit hot.. any input? im wondering if I should lower the vcore and see if its stable... what program should I use besides Orthos to see if my C2D is stable at a certain voltage? and how long should I run it?

That doesn't sound horribly hot to me, as Orthos will make your processor hotter than any normal program will. I'm assuming you're using Core Temp 0.95 to measure your temps. If so, I'd suggest you ignore all temperature readings and just use the "Show delta to Tjunction temp" setting in that program. This reads the DTS and is a reverse measure, telling you how many degrees you have to go until you reach your processor's limit (DTS=0). My personal recommendation is to stay above DTS=15 during normal load operations, just to be safe.

I know it's a huge thread, but more info can be found here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1174781. You'll want to pay special attention to the research and testing by unclewebb.

As for your vcore, you always want that to be as low as you can get it without stability problems. Lower it little by little and continue testing with Orthos for a few hours to see if its stable. If it becomes unstable, you'll know you need to bump it back up. I've heard many different suggestions as to how many hours you should run Orthos to consider your setup stable, so use your own judgment there. Just know that pretty much any Orthos failure means it's unstable.

My vcore is currently at 1.4 I ran Orthos for 5 minutes and it didn't fail. Been playing CS:S for abour 3 hours now with no instability... i'll run Orthos tonight for 8+ hours to see if its totally stable at 1.4 or lower...

thats a normal temp with 1.45 vcore. im @ 1.4vcore idle 35-40 depending on room temp.
Load is around 55c
