E6300 ---> E6600 Worth it?

I have my e6300 running at 3.4 stock volts on my current system seeing the 129.99 e6600 from mircro center a good deal, is it worth the upgrade? Do you think the e6600 will clock higher then 3.4?
 
ya it will. but can you sell your 6300 for a price that would make the upgrade worthwhile. im sure you can, so go through with it.
 
not a good idea at all. if you are going to upgrade, get a quad. you can get maybe 400mhz more out of an e6600, if you are lucky.

Second that. There isn't really anything you can upgrade to that can give you a noticeable gain in performance unless you're talking about a quad. But why would you even consider it unless you were doing some heavy cpu intensive tasks. I HIGHLY recommend you NOT to upgrade at this point. You cpu scales with some of the highest processors I've ever seen and with stock volts at 3.4, you can probably gain a little more with a bump to the vcore. You're chip seems to be better than the E6600 overclocking wise. 3.4 on stock is very impressive.

I can't believe that you would actually recommend him to go through with this...It is beyond illogical.
 
Absolutely no point. Chances are The 6600 will clock even worse. It is very, very unlikely that you'll see even 3.6GHz with stock voltages. And 200MHz is what, 6%. Maybe 5-10% more because of higher cache size, but anyway, seriously not worth the trouble.
 
I spent $35 and upgraded from e6300 to e6600 last week in order to get the 9 multiplier (my memory is only stable 1:1 @ 436fsb). I consider it money well spent to be able to do 3.4-3.5 stable vs 3.05.. but realistically there is no performance gain that is notable, just better in my mind :) If you were already at 3.3-3.4, I would hold out just 2-3 more months and see how penryn turns out if your mb is compatible. Or go ahead and spring for q6600.. one of the two.

But, if you can sell it high and buy low on the e6600, it might be worth it just for the boredom factor.. which is why I did it.

Unfortunately the micro center deal is gone. So that leaves you to the used market.

In other words you will not see any performance increase even if it does oc to 3.6ghz, it would be miniscule.

Why not bump the volts and see what the gem of yours can do! 3.4 on stock volts is the highest i've heard for the low-mid line of c2d's.
