Please don't flame. Would a Conroe E6300 beat a P4 3.0 at non Multi-threaded apps and games? And if so by how much are we talking?

For Core 2 vs Pentium D (dual core).... Core 2 is 2x faster clock for clock
IE:
e6300 @ 1.86Ghz >= 3.73Ghz+ Pentium D 965 XE
And thats a Pentium D, much less an older Pentium 4
My e6600 @ 3Ghz is much faster than my my old Pentium D @ 4Ghz.
for Super Pi its twice as fast
for most gaming benchmarks its 50% faster even though the clock speed is 33% slower.

RogueTrip said:There aren't fighting squat about higher clock rate, its still true that a C2D 3ghz is faster than a C2D 1.86ghz, they just have to let you know that each clock cycle is more efficient than the p4's/pD's, i mean the prescott isn't a very "efficient" 30 pipe cpu and this comes from a owner of one.

Battleneter2 said:That is correct, but my point is when Intel's processor were less efficient per clock cycle compared to ie AMD64 opposed to Prescott to use a recent example, Intel were more than happy to promote the "higher clock cycle" is best myth to the general public and this worked well to sell an inferior product.
Now they have been forced to do a 180 and have the same problem AMD have had for 5 years convincing punters performance (performance per clock cycle) is more important than clock cycle.
RogueTrip said:lol, well you have to make a turd look good to in order to keep making money for the company. I bit without research but i'm not one to say i'm not "ok" with the performance when coupled with a good video card.
They should have no problem with selling the C2D's cause every place on the net has benchmarks showing that its whooping AMD's are like the old P2/K6-2 Days, it just makes you all warm inside after that![]()

RogueTrip said:Awesome rig, my plan was to hold out for quad-core when prices start lowering, don't see a real point yet to get anything still knowing vista isn't out yet and 2nd gen DX-10 cards aren't out yet. So for now money is going into my dodge stealth and dodge daytona![]()
I can play NFS carbon @ 1280x1024 high settings with motion blur off just fine so i'm good to go till i see something that will knock my puter to its knee's (UT2k7 maybe?)

Used to race mustangs & porsches in it. It wasn't super fast from a dead stop.... but a rolling start with the turbo kicking in, was awesome.
Noone believed I was kicking their ass with a 4 cyclinder. I had to pop the hood a few times to show people that I didn't have nitrix, etc.
MIne looked just like this http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2038370 but red. I wish I hadn't totalled it! It looks like they were fairly rare & it would probably be quite valuable down the road. It was maxed out, leather, 2.2liter turbo, sunroof, etc.
Oh yeah & back to PC's. You've probably got the right idea holding out a little while for cheaper quad core, Vista & DX10. I just like upgrading for the hell of it!![]()
