I went to buy a E5200 at Microcenter, but when the salesperson brought out the box it said pentium dual-core, not core 2 duo. I searched online and it seems like there are 2 different versions. Is there a difference? If so, what is the difference? Thanks.

The E5200 is not a C2D, it is a pentium dual core.
E5xxx or lower are all Pentium Dual Cores.
E6xxx or higher are all Core 2 Duos.
Q6xxx or higher are all Core 2 Quads.
Therefore all E5200s are Pentium Dual Cores. There is no such thing as a Core 2 Duo E5200. Hope this clears up some confusion.

Yea that does. Thanks! I was confused because microcenter listed the one E5200 as a core 2 duo and one as a pentium dual-core.
So i guess the next question is what are the advantages of getting a core 2 duo? The e7400 is only $30 more. Would I notice a big overall performance boost?

The only difference is that the E5200 does not have the little features like IA SSE 4.1/2

As for overall boost, stock vs stock, the e7400 is clocked at what? 2.8ghz? While the E5200 is at 2.5ghz, So at stock, yes you will notice better performance on the E7400, Clock for clock? Once again to the E7400 but by very little in gaming performance, at best just 1-2 frames.
Benchmark wise, I have seen my E5200 @ 4.4ghz score about ~100 less than a E8400 @ 4.4Ghz.
One thing about the E5200 is that their ''Binned'' (Did i spell it right?), So they might run a bit hotter than E7400/E8400, and of course a E7000/E8000 will have higher fsb capabilities, Which is not that much of a problem with the E5200 since its multi is 12.5.
I love my E5200, At 24/7 Settings which are 3.78Ghz @ 1.4V & 3.96Ghz @ 1.475V, Load temps are around 60-68C on a Lapped Tuniq 120, Which for todays standards is still a decent cooler, but theres better performers. Keep in mind i have one of the worst batches of E5200 from the research i did. Most people with my batch never get over 3.8Ghz under what most casual overclockers consider or feel is 24/7 Safe. For $83 (Cost when i purchased it), What more can you want?

Im sure my E5200 would outperform my old 3800X2 @ 3.0Ghz at stock speeds
Im just amazed how a inexpensive chip can overclock decently and how it eliminated my cpu bottleneck, I swear, The main part of my upgrade i did, helped out my gpu by a ton, I wish i saved my 3dmark06 scores to check Gpu Score diff. All i remember is being to bearly break 10k going to 15k with mild clocks. 3Dmark means crap i know, but bah
I actually went to a Q9550 V, Got it decently clocked @ 4.0Ghz no problems, but after rmaing it, i realized the E5200 was enough for me. I do how ever plan to upgrade to Quad again in the summer, since i know in the summer my E5200 would not even be able to clock as i have it now.
