I know the Core e4600 processor is near release. I wonder if there will be a review here on the day of release or no. I'm curious how it will compare to an Athlon x2 6000+.

Let me take a stab in the dark for you.

If 4400 = 10x200, and 4500 = 11x200, then 4600 probably is 12x200 for 2.4GHz.

Meaning it'll be priced at $150 or $170, M0 stepping, and exactly the same as any other M0 with 2MB of L2.

Rough estimations would give Intel a 600MHz advantage (2GHz Conroe = 2.6GHz K8), so it'd probably perform roughly the same as a 6000+.

Of course, with plenty of overclocking headroom.

the x2 6000+ will win almost all of the time. it beats the e6600 in most benchmarks. u can use this link to compare.

Taking overclocking into consideration, you might as well get the E4500 or even the E4400.

12x400mhz = 4800mhz. Maybe with phase but doubtful.
12x333mhz = 3996mhz. You could get this with phase change cooling, but you could also get 400x10 on an E4400, so why bother?
12x266mhz = 3192mhz. You'll probably get this on stock voltage, but unless you've got a stockpile of DDR2-533, whats the point? DDR2-800 is so cheap right now, you can get 4x1gb for under $150. 8x400mhz will get you 3.2ghz w/o even stressing your ram, and you can do that on a cheaper processor...

I can go on but you get the point. Unless you're using lower spec ram than DDR2-800, or intend to pair it with a really crappy motherboard, there's just no reason to buy one.

edit: and if you're not taking overclocking into consideration, i can't for the life of me figure out why. I took my E4500 to 3.2ghz on stock voltage just by dropping the multiplier to 8, increasing FSB to 400 and changing the memory divider to 1:1.

oh and before you ask, i bought the e4500 instead of the e4400 because Newegg erroneously advertised it as having Intel VT, which it doesn't.

That's the worst review I've ever seen. Who compares an OC'ed X2 5000+ with a STOCK E6550. That X2 has a 1.0GHz CLOCK SPEED ADVANTAGE.

You know what that means? That means the X2 with a 1.0Ghz clock speed advantage BARELY outperforms a C2D at stock.

Your absolutely correct! in fact, a Opteron 165 @ 2.7ghz is equal to a e4300 stock (I tried it) I never realized how much better Core 2 Duos are! I mean DAMN thats kinda sad...lol poor ati
