Hate to ask this question if it's been asked before, but I couldnt' find it on the search

e4300 seems to be priced around the x2 4200. w/o overclocking it seems to be worse than the e6300.. so I have to ask.. does the e4300 still mantain its performance advantage over similarly priced x2 processors w/o overclocking?

when compared to similarly priced X2s, it does perform better. Not only that, but the Intel socket 775 platform is much more upgradeable over the AM2/939, because the AM2 is nearly at a dead end, says AMD.

The E4300 is going to be really cheap after the E4400 is released, $113 and $133, respectively. If you are going to grab an E4300, why not give it at least some overclock though; you can bring it up to stock E6600 speeds for half the price.

That is completely sad that the AM2 was released a year ago and is already near the end. AMD really needs to get their shit together when releasing yet another new socket.

Where did u see this crap at?

AMD has said AM2 will work with the next gen processors.

aka your gonna be able to drop that quadcore into am2 boards

am2 is not going anywhere till 08

2008 isn't that far away man, a year. AMD needs to start getting more than 2 years out of their sockets because not everybody wants to upgrade a motherboard that often. I'd much rather just upgrade and drop-in a CPU and Graphics instead of doing all 3.

I have an AMD and even im considering C2D.
The fact is, amd can't make up their mind.Am2 was almost a waste of development since they are coming out with AM2+ and AM3. I think socket T would be the best investment because it will allow for easy upgrade to Quad Core (atleast i haven't heard anything about intel coming out with a new socket in the next year).

I think at stock speeds, the E4300 is probably comparable to the X2 4200+ at stock speeds.

Explain why the 680a uses 1207 LGA instead of AM2 PGA?
AM2 has reached its limits in terms of information transfer on those very 940 pins. 2008 is about 11 months away.
You're calling the AM2 issues here bias while your source itself has problems. As a wiki user, I see errors all over wikipedia.

i agree with you. I personally am very impressed overall with AM2.

I believe I mis stated my point. I was pointing out that there were problems with that that poster said.

That being said, I too am impressed with AMD. Just not right now.

I'm kinda confused here at the moment.

Actually in H2 2008 Intel will bring a new socket to the market , socket B IIRC with around 1366 pins. This summer it willlaunch a new generation of chipsets designed for the 45nm generation of chips ( they use 1333 FSB ).
I think current mobos will accept 45nm chips , but you have to OC them to run at FSB 1333.

It is for the new uarch designed to replace the Core Generation , named Nehalem. What's nice about Nehalem :
-new core
-IMC
-CSI

o shit. Well, Socket T now is still a good investment if you can use the new architecture on socket T.

Nice specs by the way ;) :)) )

I think you mean 939 is nearly a dead end.

the e4300 is somewhere around the level of an X2-4400+, give or take..

S939 is dead, they have already announced they would not release a new 939, however some of us believe that AM2 is dead as the next processors might fit but they won't be compatible with DDR3 in an AM2 board so you have to upgrade the motherboard anyway, alas dead socket in a sense.

I don't want to buy a new motherboard every 2 years, my socket A lasted me 4 years, and in that time I saw AMD switch to 754, 940 (the original FX line), 939 then finally AM2. Intel doesn't even switch sockets that often, and I absolutely hated Intel until the C2 line.

Yeah, I still have 2 socket A rigs running strong, I'm pissed that they had 3 new sockets in as many years, need to slow it down a bit.
