E4300 vs E6320 vs E6550

I was looking at getting a new proc. I was looking at the E4300 and noticed for a $40 more I could get the E6320 and get a larger cache. Then I noticed for $15 more I could get the E6550 that has a faster fsb.
My question is, are the small jumps in price worth it? I do not game much but work with encoding video files a lot. I was told at one point in time that the larger cache is helpful when doing this type of work.
Also, I would like to do some overclocking and was not sure which chip would lend itself to overclocking more than the others. I'm open to other procs as well if there is a better option out there in this price range. Thanks
 
The E6550 is a good overclocker but it only has a 7X multi so you will need a motherboard with the Intel P965 or P35 chipset and also memory that is comfortable at running at a high FSB speed.

For another $8 I would look into getting an E6420. It uses the 8X multi and is a great overclocker. It's a lot easier running a motherboard at 450 MHz x 8 = 3600 MHz then it is to run a board at over 500 MHz x 7.

If you are on a tight budget then stick with the E4300. Just keep in mind that most users are not getting nearly as high overclocks out of the revision L2 E4300 processors.
 
Thanks for the info, I'll look into the E6420 also. I'd rather spend a little more on the proc than having to spend a bunch on the memory.
 
my e4300 is plenty for me, it was the best bang for the buck 1month ago.

it does 3.2 no prob. the temps at stock are around 40-45c idle, and 52-56load.

seems to run a bit hotter than the previous version (mine is an L2). Im not worried about it though becuase i usually just run it at stock speeds anyways.

plenty for me, and it was only 110$
 
....or you could get the 6750 for 15 bucks more than the 6550.

I have the 6550 and couldn't be happier. The temps for it at stock are 32C. I haven't overclocked it much, but I did bump the fsb up to 466. (466*7=3262) Didn't have to up the voltage at all.

I backed up a dvd and played some call of duty. The system is more than fast enough for my needs at stock speeds so I did crank it back down immediately.

I'd go with the newest models because, why not?
