Since the E4300 will probably be phased out in the future by the E4400, their prices will probably be almost even. Is there any reason the E4400s would have LESS oc potential than the E4300s?
No. They should have more anyway in the cases where the chip has a low Max FSB wall or in the case of a low end motherboard with a limited FSB overclockability due to the higher multi.
But on the 680i / P965 / P35 platforms that wouldn't bet he case, I expect almost every 4400 to do at least the same or better than the 4300's
Just get the cheapest one. They will both have 'potential' but as you should no it's not guaranteed. They're both proven to hit insane OC's so just get what's cheap.
Nice article but it's misleading. The testers decided to use more core voltage for the E4400 than the E4300 and there was no mention of just how stable each overclock was. Run 'em at the same core voltage so they are both Orthos stable for 4 hours ( the [H]ard standard ) and the differences will be next to nothing.
Processors built using the same manufacturing process in the same manufacturing plants generally have very similar overclocking abilities. A lot of other variables like motherboard capabilities and memory quality effect overclocking results much more than the actual processor does.
who cares really, go for whichever is cheaper. Just think your looking between 2 dirt cheap chips and one could be a bit faster OCer but hell luck of the draw it might OC like shit. Then your thinking damn.. I haven't seen too many people dissapointed with their e4300 OCs
i've had both in my possesion and the 4300 i have is definitely more impressive than the 4400 i had. on the same board, the 4300 does 1400 FSB (350*9=3150mhz) and the 4400 wouldn't budge passed 1066 FSB (266*10=2660mhz). no voltage adjustments on either and both were highest max stable FSB's. mind you these were both on the same msi P6N-SLI-FI, nvidia 650i chipset. cooling was the same for both as well, AC Freezer 7 Pro.
seriously luck of the draw though. i'm very happy with my e4300 over the 4400 that i did have.
