E4300 OC or E6600 OC'd to upgrade from A64 4000+ non OC?

Ok so my grand scheme plan for my PC includes a Core 2 Duo.
From what I understand the core 2 duo's overclocked into the 3ghz+ range will smoke my A64 4000+ (1mb l2, 2.4ghz)

Here is my question, the E4300 overclocks to close to what the E6600 will hit.

What is the benefit of spending the extra $$$ on the 6600? Say I can hit 3.2 with both of them. How much faster would the 6600 actually be?

Negligible difference with the extra 2mb of cache. Kinda like the A64 CPU's. Venice core had 512k of cache and San Diego had 1mb of cache but there was a max of 5% difference in any benchmarks/apps that were run. Basically it is all about the price and bragging. I got an E4300 that I have run up to 3Ghz @ stock vcore and I couldn't be happier comming from an OC'd 3500+ Venice core @ 2.8Ghz.

I totally agree with this. Mine is currently running at 3.36 GHz at 1.475v without problems and it's very fast.

I went with the E4300 last week and can't believe how easily it overclocks. I got 2.88 GHz without even trying. Once my benchmarks started to exceed those of a E6600, I stopped.

Right now, not much difference, but as more demanding software come out, the difference will grow. But for email, internet, and regular everyday apps, 2mb of L2 is plenty.

Well once the more demanding apps, games, benchmarks start to show then 4MB will prolly be the norm. Intel is comming out with the E6320 and E6420 in which they both have 4MB of cache I believe.

cut and cold, if you got the money, go with the e6600. If you dont or wanna invest in some other hardware, go with the e4300.

My e4300 is unbelievable. I hit 3.2 orthos stable with ease @ 1.368v. I know I can push the limit even farther but what for?

E4300.... doubt youd feel the difference in any apps....

The 4300 price will drop in April ( $113 ) I heard as they want to put a bigger price difference 4300 and the 4mb 6300......

nice nice nice ..~4300 indeed has such potential to even surpass 6300 ~ I really like it ~ waiting for INTEL drop the price then get it immediately
