E4300 Conroe core?

CPUz is reporting my E4300 as a Conroe. I thought all E4300s were allendales? The comp is taken apart right now and at home, so I cant get you stepping and numbers and such. It was running dead stable at 2.7 though. I will see what it says when I put it back together tonight. (the mobo had onboard nic issues, so I returned it for another of the same board.


Were early E4300s conroes?

*edit* It appears that the first E4300s were Conroes. I guess I got lucky and got one of them. I didnt have a chacne to push it too far, but it ran 3dmark a few times with no issues at 2.9 without running way hot, and at stock voltages. :)
 
I know mine reported as a conroe. I couldn't get more than 2.7 FULLY stable without crazy voltage.
 
Run CPU-z 1.39 and check out the Revision. If it says B2 then it is a Conroe core.

The E4300 and the new E6300 / E6400 will say Revision L2 which are Allendale cores.

Many software programs do not report Conroe / Allendale correctly but you can't argue with the Revision number.
 
Im putting the comp back together with the new mobo, Ill let you know what it says.
 
The Intel SL9xx part number can be found on the processor box and is also stamped on top of your processor as long as you haven't been doing too much lapping! :D

Conroe Revision B2:
SL9S5 - 2.93 GHz - X6800
SL9S7 - 2.66 GHz - E6700
SL9S8 - 2.40 GHz - E6600
SL9S9 - 2.13 GHz - E6400
SL9SA - 1.86 GHz - E6300

Conroe Revision B2 - Second Generation:
SL9ZF - 2.66 GHz - E6700
SL9ZL - 2.40 GHz - E6600

Allendale Revision L2:
SL9T9 - 2.13 GHz - E6400
SL9TA - 1.86 GHz - E6300
SL9TB - 1.80 GHz - E4300

If the 4th digit is an S or a Z then you have a Conroe and if it's a T you have an Allendale.
 
It says L2, so that means allendale?
It says conroe in CPUz and OCs really well so far, I figured that it had to be conroe because allendales dont oc well from what I have heard. And I am at 3.04 and rock solid stable with no voltage increase on air cooling.

They only hit 3375 MHz but that was using the Intel heatsink and fan.

The Allendale's don't overclock myth seems to be just that. Many people are having great results overclocking their Revision L2 chips.

The CPUID for an Allendale core is 6F2 and the CPUID for Conroe is 6F6. The P5B Deluxe Bios shows this value.

It also shows up in CPUz.
Family 6 Model F Stepping 2 = Allendale

Heh, don't get too excited because of a few reviews of hand-picked cpus... Everyone knows that Intel sends highly overcloackable cpus to reviewers to generate hype about them. If you listen to people around various forums, you'll see a more realistic picture

Well its fairly obvious I got a highly overclockable CPU as well :) At least what I consider highly overclockable. I am going to play with settings and such as I learn more about OCing the C2D and I would like to end up at 3.4 stable.

I was actually talking about Allendale core e4300s, so my post above does not apply to your conroe e4300 ;)

But it appears mine is not a conroe. If L2 means allendale, then mine is indeed an allendale.

I dont really care either way though, Its OCing well and thats what is more important to me:D
 
Does anyone have trouble overclocking their E4300 on a Gigabyte DS3/DQ6 or on a P5B Deluxe while using some decent Micron D9 memory with the appropriate voltage?

Compared to when the C2D first came out, there are a lot of boards available now and not all of them are great overclockers. Budget users building systems around an E4300 frequently cut costs like memory, power supplies, cases, etc. Promos based memory modules are not equal to D9GMH when it comes to overclocking. Budget cases that include a "free" power supply also don't cut it when it comes to extreme overclocking.

The average Allendale core cpu might not be quite as good as the average Conroe core cpu but I think the difference is not as great as some people believe. What experienced overclocker has an E4300 that can't reach 3.0 GHz? People that are serious about overclocking and aren't afraid to give their E4300 the voltage and cooling it needs seem to be doing OK.

A retail E4300 at 3.0 to 3.4 GHz is certainly possible and even likely if you do your homework and spend money on all of the other components needed for a good overclock. Head to the [H] OC database and see what other successful users are running. If you buy an AGP board with DDR memory and your C2D doesn't overclock worth a damn then don't be too surprised.
 
I'm buying the E4300 as a filler chip until I get a Quadcore.

If I hit 3GHz stable, I'll be happy.

However, I have watercooling so I'm pretty confident that I'll hit 3.2-3.5GHz.

You can't argue for a <60% overclock from a chip that's just weeks away from costing only $113. You just can't.
 
i set my e4300 (allendale) to 3.0 in one move.

easiest overclock i've ever attempted.


edit: mind you, i had already proved the motherboard with my 805D
