e4300 concerns

I recently installed a e4300 and have some concerns. Only 1 out of 4 push pins clicked when I instaleld it. Shoud I use more force and make sure all 4 click? The stock cooler also didnt have any protective sheet over the thermal compound. Is that normal?

- Yes, that's normal. The way that they package the HSF is so that it doesn't touch the plastic casing that it ships in.

- Yes, I was also surprised (after about 9 years of AMD CPUs) at how much force was required to install the stock cooler
 
Assuming the heatsink is the same as the E6400 stock heatsinks.....

Yeah the push pin system isnt the best but.... This is how I did it.. You see the top of the push pins. They have a line or slot for a screw driver or similar? Rotate those pins counter-clockwise before mounting, so the "lines" are pointing away from the heatsink.

You should be able to push it down fairly easy now and without much force. I didnt know this when I first did it either and was actually bending the motherboard trying to push it down so hard. I think most people dont know this.

While holding it down, use a screwdriver or something similar to rotate the pins back "clock-wise" so the line is pointing toward the heatsink. This should lock it. Do that for each pin(obviously).
 
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I used a good amount of force but maybe it was not enough? Should I take the motherboard out of the case and try to reseat the heatsink? What is the best object to put the board on to prevent damage while I attempt to reseat the heatsink?
 
You should read my reply before doing anything. You shouldnt need to remove it at all. To remove the heatsink, rotate the pins back counter-clock-wise (so the line on top is pointing away from the heatsink) and it should come off easy.

Yeah as I was typing the reply you posted. Okay so when I get home I am going to rotate the pins counter-clockwise and leave the heatsink on not to disturb the thermal compound.
I will then do as you suggested. One quick question, with your method will I hear a click on all 4 pins?

Of course keep in mind, I only have an E6400, im assuming the E6400 stock heatsink is the same as the E4300's.


Oh well, you are not trying to complete remove it? If it is mounted, then when you rotate the pins back counter-clock-wise, the heatsink will come off fairly easy so...just be carefull. Anyways, after putting the pins back in their unmounted(horizontal) position, push them each down, I dont think there was that big of a click this way, maybe a little click. Then, rotate each pin back clock-wise(vertical) to clock each side. You can sort of visually tell when they are all the way down.

I dunno, the stock heatsink is terrible. I am at about 50C idle on mine. I have high ambients though. I cant wait to get a new heatsink.
