An analyst for Wedbush Morgan says that E3 2008, much like last year’s event, is “virtually useless.” To be honest, not only has the event lost it’s appeal, it is also a pain in the ass for journalist to have to run from hotel to hotel to attend meetings and events. The convention center was by far a better location for E3.

"The conference used to offer retail, media and investors an early look at games and an opportunity to speak with company management. Now the games have long since been announced and the event is virtually useless for retail and for investors."

Yeah, thats quite unfortunate... i wanted to go this year but they changed it last year so its not as interesting.

I was fortunate enough when the event was in Atlanta in 97 and in 98 to be working for a company so that I could attend.

It was a site to behold to say the least, I always saw it in game magazines, on the net, before I was lucky enough to attend and was in awe, felt the same way being there.

I looked at it the same after I had been as well, and was shocked/disappointed to see it change last year.

I honestly don't look forward to games as much as I used too, even though I still buy a lot and play both pc and console games.

Maybe one day, E3 will resurface in it's old form and return to the jaw dropping experience it once was. Something for all to look forward too, bringing extra hype and much needed buzz about the industry.

It helps gaming to grow, the industry to capture a new audience, create new jobs and is just a damn fun time.

I miss you E3. The impostor shouldn't have the same name.

I went in Atlanta '98. Yeah. It was pretty amazing. Heard they were moving it to LA and making changes...

And it's all gone to shit. It's a shame. I still have some of the goodies I picked up from that visit. I knew it was the beginning of the end when they made the passes prohibitive to one of their biggest markets: Gamers/Kids.

I always wanted to go to e3 but I guess i will never have the chace now

Pretty much the powers that be (the 'feminists') have yet again ruin the fun. As if people went to E3 to see a bunch of guys in suits preach about the glory and epicness of their latest creations....

Pleeeeawwwweeesss!!!!

We all know why people went to E3;) And if thats not there then why bother showing up. And if someones throwing a party that no ones showing up to then why am I going to bother buying 50 dollars worth of booze and then showing up to this party that no ones at? Waste of time, waste of resources.

Also to add to this is the fact that you have publishing and development companies that have started to jump onto the QuakeCon esque bandwagon. Why do my thing at E3 when I'm big enough to throw my own party under my own terms with everyone looking at my babes and drinking my booze the entire time? Costs me about the same amount of money and gets me a ton of more press. No brainer to me! Is probably what a lot of them are saying, including the big 3 (Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft).

E3 will be a thing of the past in the next 5 years probably. The funs been taken out of it and the big guys at the top are all asking the same question, "Wait, why are we still doing this dated mating dance again from the '40's? It's the 21st century time to change shit up!"

all the countless years of free tshirts are gone now :(
E3 was the same for the past few years. EA used the same display every year with their 360 degree screen.

I live on the east cost, E3 is always on the west, in fact all major Computer/Video game events are on the west coast or in Texas. I have never had the time or the funds to go an E3 but it was one of my life goals. Now I will never be able to and I am a really sad panda. I finally have stable job and paid vacation, but I have no E3 to go anymore. :( I wish some of these company would cater to us people on the east coast. We have two huge city New York and Boston to host events. We just got MGM Grand! I hope to eventually see some of these amazing events make our way. An not have to spend thousands to file across the country for a week.

ahh no edit, meant fly not file but I if ould FTP myself to CA i would....

Help!

I've been living under a technological rock for two years and finally came out a month ago.

What happened to E3? What changed? :(

Yes, I'm being serious <subscribed>.

It might be useless but it sure was fun. I live only 20 minutes from the LA convention center and I always enjoyed getting my hands on some of the games coming out. My favorite was still 1999, my first, but as much crap as it got later on I still appreciated it as something I can waste an afternoon on.

First the took away the girls in some bullshit decision.
Then they, pretty much, disbanded the E3 and now its more like individual companies renting places to have expos all at the same time in, sorta, the same location.

E3 in Vegas would be great. Games by day, strippers at night. What a better place to launch DNF!

Yea thats another issue. Shits on the west coast. You're missing out on a huge market on the east coast. If you wanted to revitalize E3 then maybe you should bring it to a target audience that has never experienced it before. That and lift a lot of these stupid sanctions against anything remotely fun about E3.

Did those 2 things and I betcha new life would get breathed into E3.

They ruined E3 when they tooka way the eye-candy.

Let's face it. The convention is cool, but when 90% of the time is spent waiting, and you options during that waiting time now consist of a) watching some idiot try to navigate a game they've never played. or b) watching the same demo video play over and over., it's pretty lame. Bring back the eyecandy.

E3 was the glitzy version of an otherwise boring industry.....software.

Bring back the booth babes, and throw in a feminazi dunk-tank just to piss them off even more. (if you don't like it, don't partake in it...STFU or step in the tank).

E3 has downsized itself right out of the business. Certainly developers don't want to waste time and energy showcasing their latest and greatest, but it's something you have to do in order to generate buzz. Limiting attendance to 10% of its previous levels means that no one who actually has influence on what buyers (you know, the people who give you money) think can attend.

I mean, that's all E3 was ever for; to psych up the gaming press so that when your product is finally released they're chomping at the bit to give it a good review. Now it's a "business meeting" for people who barely understand gamers at all, and a few developers who will be completely ignored. They could accomplish the same thing over this forum and have much the same effect on the industry as a whole.

So yeah, mass exodus to some other convention and absolutely no chance of revival for E3. Someone got fired.

Which is what I was pointing at in my first post. The feminists got rid of the booth babes. Babes leave and the fun leaves with it. It just turned into a bunch of suits trying to sell you a product without the usual beer and babes to go with it. Who on Earth wants to be stuck with that for an entire weekend?

Jeez. e3's used to be the most exciting thing about the summer when I was growing up. It's really a shame that it's come down to the drab stuff. But it's this what we all should've expected anyways - given it's not the same e3 setup we've been used to all these years...

qft, such a damn shame :(

Gee, and I thought that E3 was supposed to be about THE GAMES, and not just for those who think with their #$&*s.:( If this was the typical mentality of those who attended past conventions, no wonder the organizers felt the need to clean-up their act. It's a shame, though, that it appears that they went too far in the opposite direction...:(
