E3 2006 to enforce booth "babe" decency rules

Here is something that should of been done years ago. I have to agree that if the videogame industry wants to be taken seriously they need to rid E3 of all the barely dressed street walkers that companies try and pass as "booth babes." Personally I am weary of game or company when they try and but the focus on the women instead of their game.

Good. E3 is a joke, at least this will bing some credability

I'm interested at seeing how many people go and comparing that to last year and so forth.

I'm guess it will be less lol. I thought gaming was suppose to be fun? Girls almost nude are about as fun as it gets. Gaming as an industry is worth billions over, I don't see how girls in short skirts is going to have a big impact on that....

Yeah I've been there, and its not _totally_ tasteless... only 99%. The thing is most trade shows use babes from time to time, its part of the fun. But the article does have a point, they do struggle for legitimacy and the babes certainly don't help it (I guess... I don't see a problem with babes and video games.)

No! booth babes brought a visual balance to the crowd of geeky looking people. now there will be no balance in the force.

thats rediculous....dont you have to be atleast 18 to get in anyway? legal adults should know what the fuck there doing....thats so gay

I wonder how many geeks/nerds hook up with the babes there? It's no secret a lot of girls like nerds.

I go to the SEMA/AIAA auto show in Vegas every year. Massive show. Used to be every second booth had bikini babes or something like that. I didnt mind at all but apparently some folks did and 7 or 8 years ago they made it a rule to not have that type of presence. Worked well and made no diff to the numbers of atendees. (the show is not open to the public and I dont know if there is a minimum age requirement but Ive never seen any kids there that I can recall).

I know E3 is different but if you want a serous image as a big money industry you have to put forth a clean show and be a bit more polished than hot babes running around.

The adult entertainment industry show down the road can use the hot chicks lol.

It's the same at car shows... Babe's all the way. The cars still get the attention...

I don't see how the chicks were doing anything bad... We all like to see a little T&A, even the girls like seeing it (come on, admit it... Please? ;) )

Ridiculous.

If some individual E3 presenter wants to present a "family image" that's their choice.

To outright ban models from working the exhibits is wrong.

Like someone said, any auto show including the major ones, have tons of these models

working the booths. Multi-billion dollar companies like GM and Ford use them. It's harmless.

It's foolish to argue sex doesn't sell. You can't watch a shampoo commerical nowadays

without some hot woman in a shower....

Good. E3 is a gaming convention. There are plenty of strip clubs in LA. I, for one, think that the average booth babe at E3 is pretty repulsive. Not to mention they just look stupid.

...

Edit: just noticed it was bogus, wew. :D bring on the boobs, er I meen booth babes.

So no more free hummers while playing the demos?

WHY GOD, WHY?!

Huh?! Why didn't I go before?!

Glad it was bogus. I guess I didn't get that far! :)

a shower in a SHAMPOO AD?

HOLY FUCK!]]
mno wqay!

There's nothing wrong with adding a bit of T&A to your marketing push.

Anyone who whines about this plays for 'the other team.' Not that there is anything wrong with that. :p

that sucks i was going to register to go, but if they lock down the hell with that. its all about games and eyecandy in 3d and for real. car shows do it, oh well. guess ill save my money.

well if its a bogus deal, then maybe ill still go if its in reason. ill read through the registration thing again.

It turns out that this was done for safety concerns.

Apparently, the sight of breasts sends asthmatic nerds into spasms. They wheeze and certain appendages are stricken with rigor mortis.

I for one am glad. I care about the products beign demonstrated not what ever two-bit hooker these companies can hire. And for those bringing up car shows... I don't recall seeing many scantly clad women at the LA Autoshow. Sure some companies had models, but they were usually fairly well dressed.

Personally this over sexulization of gaming only makes things worse for the industry. It is just putting a big target on itself saying "hey look, not only do we have violence, but we glorify women looking like prositutes!"

Now instead of being looked at as just nerds, now you get looked at as perverts AND nerds. So much for your hopes of getting a girlfriend/wife.

I refuse to go to shows that promote (directly or not) the presence of scantly clad women. If the show cant draw me to it by its content alone, it isn't worth attending.

HAHA QFT at THAT!

It's because all the good looking ones go to the import car shows :p

Actually, the thread title is the most accurate description of what's going on: enforcement. E3 is starting to feel pressure to start reigning in the suckfest that E3 has become. It also has something to do with the Big Three showing off their new consoles this year and some semblence of order has to be in in place or this year's E3 will be a big disaster.

With GDC and other shows in Europe and Japan making more and more of an impression E3 is in a make or break year. The model and press enforcement changes are more than welcome even if more than overdue.

Let's reiterate with a simple quote from the end of the source:

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus.

models arent bad. u can have a hot model in your tight logo tshirt there signing autos or just bein seen. but ones that look like they just came in of the high end hooker street aint too civil.

All that the "bogus" at the end of the article means is that they aren't BANNED, but that they're going to be enfocing a $5,000 penalty starting next year. So they're not banned but the penalty will make the rule have some teeth. reading comprehension.

i guess you wouldn't be more interested in something on the tele or a movie with a nice looking chick? they get them at E3 so that geeks and nerds like the ones that frequent this forum can see what a female looks like up close.

I just like seeing chics dressed up in wierd outfits, they don't have to be mostly nude to get my attention.

And let's be honest, the booth "babes" are usually just a so-so girl in costume. Rarely have I looked at a picture of a booth babe and actually thought she was hot. Good/decent looking? Usually. Worthy of the term babe? Rarely.

As far as I'm concerned they should just roll E3, CES, and the AEC all into one big show... that would be a week of bliss.

Then you need to go to Otakon.

i think the hopeless geek dudes need something to keep them from jumping off a high rise. keep them i say, nothing sells like sex, those scantily clad women are excellent advertising.

It must be said though girls dressed up like pokemon and various other videogame characters come off more as wierd than sexy... (saw some at digital life and i just felt sorry for them, especially all the kids waiting to get thier pictures taken)
