I've got my replacement build set up, and i was lookin to overclock but the temps are keepin me wary...

My old build was a x2 4200+ Manchester core and the cooler was an xp-90. I'd get around 28-33 idle, 35-38load. Now, i've got the e2180 and i've got the lga775 socket adapter for the xp-90, and i've got idle at 42-44, and load at 55-60C, stock clock. And this is after about 5 mins worth of prime95. This normal? maybe didn't apply the paste right? Is the xp-90 not a wise choice for this socket/chip?

I dont know about your cooler but I am using an old Zalaman 9500 LED on a E2200 running at 3.0 GHz and my idle temps are 24-26 and 47-52 load.

You might be using a temp program that is reading your tjmax as 100c and therefore need to lower your temps by 15c but if you are using the latest realtemp or coretemp then you may have to reseat the cooler.

I'm using hardware monitor mainly, and was trying out speed fan for something and noticed that the temps were about 15 degrees off from HWmon. Don't know which one's correct.

I'm pretty certain at this point that the tjmax for these cpus is 85c, so I would subtract the 15c, giving you idle 27-29c and load 40-45c. Checkout realtemp and coretemp to be sure of your temps. If they are still high in those programs you may need to reseat your hsf.

Heres what mine looks like right now at idle and with an ambient of around 19c
