Well I still have an Intel mobo sitting around from Intel Retail Edge and I think I'm going to make an upgrade to my mother's computer. Right now she has a Pentium D930 on a ECS mobo and 1GB of DDR400. I was looking at the e2180 because of the price but would that be much of an upgrade from the D 930? I'm going to pick up 2GB of Gskill if I order the proc and install Vista Home Premium on it. Would the e2180 get the job done pretty well without an OC? She has a mATX rig and I'd like to keep heat an noise down as much as possible as it is her work/personal machine.
 
Yes, at least in terms of heat production and efficiency. The e2180 will murder the pentium d 930
 
The e2180 is equivalent to the Pentium D960 or pretty close so i would imagine that it would smoke the 930.
 
If your running ddr1 you may need a new board to get the e2180 running.. just a thought...
But anyway what chipset are you running?
 
Right now it's a VIA p4800.

When I buy a new cpu I'll also be buying some DDR2-800. The chipset on the new mobo is G33.
