Near Field Communication technology in phones is cool and all but, I agree with the author of this article, it won't be replacing your real wallet anytime soon.

Today's flurry of reports that Apple's iPhone 5 and iPad 2 will support Near Field Communications technology has sparked yet another round of nonsense about how so-called e-wallets soon will be the death knell of the leather variety.

F*** "e" this, "i" that, "web2.x" that.

I love technology as much as the next geek here, but c'mon. Is it so hard to carry a real wallet or talk with real people in person?

As far as I'm concern, my debit cards are e-wallets and have replaced cashed a long time ago. You can even use it online.

This..

I don't care to rely on something that can potentially crash and leave me stranded with no access to my money.

Not many actually small businesses will be doing this. If pushed they'd probably rather do a 2% cash discount and avoid these hassles, but they still want that card-paying business even with fees.

What about the driver's license?

Soon internet will be kind of like a huge WiFI... and we will have to use calls and internet via this huge WiFi bubble. When you walk into McDonald's lets say, it will already know you're in the exact store and apply the McDonald's Wifi connection bubble to your phone. You walk into McDonald's and instantly get a "text" with the current menu and prices of sale or "promotion" meals. Walk up the the counter, order via phone, then apply your fingerprint to "approve" the meal. Everything will get done by a machine. Fries will be tossed with one mechanical arm (perhaps powered by some fat 250lb guy at his own house as a "worker") onto a belt which meets the burger robot who flips/microwaves your burger with the one-armed robot burger machine. Passes the burger to the 2-handed burger wrapping robot who wraps every burger with accurate and detailed precision that no buger man of today could accomplish without years of experience (rare in the field)

Man, that makes you think.

Now if that burger teleported then to my hand while I sit at my house/desk/office, we will be truly in fully automated age!

just used my bank card for the past 3 years, It works perfectly fine, so why not a card inside a phone ? :p
