Have a freind whom I trying to find an external enclosure for his Maxtor 160 gig SATA 150 drive. I know that that e-SATA is not back compatible with SATA I (correct?) so that would eliminate a lot of the ones I've looked at for the mobo he has. The mobo in question is an abit NF7-S rev2

Now the real noob part  ....came across an e-SATA to SATA I/O bracket. This does what? Just convert a cable connector style or is it a solution to the problem?

E-sata is just sata (of any speed or generation) with a ruggedized external connector. You can use a "sata 1" disk in a "sata 2" enclosure with a "sata 3" controller (well, when they come out) with no problems.
