Dyson (famous for vacuum cleaners) is starting to sell a bladeless electric fan. I wonder how noisy these are. Could they finally be the solution for an air-cooled and silent system that can make use of smaller fans?

Likely uses the same technology as the "Ionic Breeze". That would mean it has very low static pressure, and fairly low airflow. Low static pressure makes if bad for use in any heatsink or watercooling radiator, and the low airflow is well .... low airflow. Probably not suitable for use in PC cooling.

EDIT : Just read the article, it just moves the motor inside the base, doesn't work like the ionic breeze at all. Also as said, it is noisy because it still has a motor.

According to Engadget.com it's quite noisy ('vacuum-like') and provides far less airflow than a similar-sized standard fan.

Not very hot, IOW.

The article says it moves 119 gal/second that converts to 1596 CFM that seem pretty impressive but then that is a 10" fan. I have no idea what a standard 10" fan would move.
A 250mm case fan (link) is listed as moving 105 CFM at 820 RPM. @50mm = 9.8".
Depending on the noise level, something like this could be built into a case as the only fan and possibly be = in noise to multiple standard fans.
It will be interesting to see :)

That cool regardless of how useful it is.

Side note everyone should buy a dyson as they suck big time.
