I just upgraded from my 2100+/KT400 system and bought an MSI budget board, the 848P Neo ($80) along with a 2.8 P4 and finally some Patriot PC3200, a single 512 stick ($80). Anyways, it came with some software that overclocks for you automatically. More specifically Core Center. There is also a feature in the BIOS called Dynamic Overclocking, which I have disabled right now.
I've have little experience overclocking, just so you know. I did a little on my 2100+ but it got a little hot, same with my GF4 Ti4200.
Anyways I decided I want to OC a little now I have something less volitile, if you know what I mean. My cooler is one I got for free while reviewing Athlon HSFs. I never had a use for it until now. Cooler: GlobeFan.com ZCN 06-03 (rated at 2.8, whew).
I decided to press the AUTO button seen in the picture and after a few minutes my FSB was at 227 and I hit stop. My temp actually dropped 2 degrees according to the reading shown @ 3180MHz.
Anyways, the manual says not to use the Dynamic Overclocking feature in the BIOS until OCing the usual way. So I assume so far I'm in the right direction. I was suprised that I didn't read anything in the manual that it would regulate according to the temperature. Only that when running applications it would speed up the bus to increase performance.
What is the approximate temp I shouldn't go over (under load)?
Any of you have experience using MSI's Dynamic Overclocking?
How about Patriot memory?
I'll probably have more to wonder about and I'll post it later.
