Dyna mat

If your case has open front (or even worse, also side panel) then airborne noise leaks out in any case and only thing any kind lining can do is reducing vibration induced noises... if it has enough density/mass for that.
Dynamat is definitely one of the better working materials for reducing vibration induced noises. (any extra material layers on panels also increases their airborne noise absorption)

But remember that you also have to have quiet components and fans.
 
Yes you can use dynamat. See the Coolermaster Cosmos 1000, has a sound deadening material on the side panels to help reduce noise.
 
The reason i ask is because i had some sound deadener from frozencpu an air could still pass through it, while the dynamat have the foil i didnt know is it would just turn it into a huge heat box. Of course im not going to put it around the fan openings an what not i just didnt know if it would be my apt to keep heat inside the case do to the foil.

I purchased Acoustimat noise dampening material. It looks better than dynamat and does not reflect the heat back into the case. It is more expensive than dynamat but easier to cut and not as thick. If you add Dynamat to the sides of a case you will not likely have room for any cable management behind teh motherboard tray as dynamat is much thicker than most noise dampening material.

I used the triple layer (.3m thick) Acoustimat on my sides and the two layer (.2mm thick) Acoustimat on the motherboard tray and some other stuff. I cant hear anything out of my case.

If you do use Dynamat be sure to post us your temps, I am interested to know how much of a difference it makes in heat transfer.
 
Ok well i did a quick job of it with the dyna mat this is in a silverstone sg01an i covered everything that wasn't used for ventilation etc. Threw it back together an right off the bat plus three degrees. Noise wise its alot better but ill let it settle for a bit a tinker with it to see if it worth it to me.

As do I, however with the foil top it tends to reflect heat back into the case. With some of the other noise dampening materials that doesnt happen nearly as bad. Plus its not as thick. I debated adding it to my case as it was cheaper than the Acoustimat stuff I purchased, but in retrospect I am much happier with the result.

In my car however it works great to keep the 1000+ watts in my car rather than everywhere else.
 
yes the foil has alot to do with the deadning i have some off brand mat that is a bit thinker without the foil it makes a difference dont get me wrong but not like the dynamat thats why i went to the dyna or was going to im not to sure at this point. My case in a foot from me with 4 mid speed fans an a stock ati 4850 cooler that whistles like no tommarrow after half way dynamating i can bairly hear anything until the 4850 is about 80% fan speed im sure if i were to fully do the case an chasis i wouldnt hear a thing.


ps the 4 fans are cheapo 80mm 2 in front 1 on top 1 in the back in a silverstone sg01. before the dynamat was installed it sound like i was at a remote control airplane show.
 
just keep in mind that the foil backed stuff is probably conductive, so watch your clearences if your going to be sticking it behind your motherboard.

im considering going a slightly different route, i have a friend that installs rhino lineing (truck bed liner) see if i can get him to squirt some scrap from a left over job inside my YY cube to help bring the noise down some..

Now that would be worth some pictures and temps for sure!!!
 
Radiation doesn't account for any discernible heat transfer in a ventilated computer chassis. Unless you were running a completely passive heatsink, or radiator then it won't be measurable.
