im not sure what the brand name is, but it is used in servers for the xeon processors. i have had this power supply for 2-3 years now. it is 460W and is used to power:

amd 2400+ xp
msi kt4av-l
512mb ddr400 samsung
6 drives (120 WD, 200 seagate, 300 WD, 3x250 WD), all pata
geforce 5500
linksys 10/100/1000
U.S. robotics 56k
promise card

my system will power up fine, its just i have to turn the switch off in the back and wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on. even when i forget to do this, system gets power and will get an "ok" beep, but wont actually post. just curious what this could be.

Probably the motherboard, but could be the power supply.

Verify the components on the mainboard and inside the power supply are still in good working order. ie check the capacitors etc... My Antec 430 lasted past it's 3 years and recently fell to bad caps... can't complain really.. it lasted 4 years.

well, it looks like i'll have to open up the box then and clean up the wires too while im in there. hopefully i can find something when i get home (late) tonight.

6? that's a lot of hard drives... figure your average drive takes 1a or 25w each... are you putting too big of a strain on one leg of the psu?

i dont have the power split with extra splitters if that's what you mean. all the pata power cables are used from the PSU. it is dual 12v, 16a and 15a on each rail.

6 month update: Yes, this is relatively old, but I think it needs an update. Turns out the mobo was bad. The PSU I have is fine (Enhance 460W).
