dying MSI KT4V?

I am running an MSI KT4V and it ate a cpu for no apparent reason. replaced the CPU and now a few months later it started having booting problems where sometimes it freezes during post and sometimes it boots up and runs fine. I put in a high performance PSU (Ultra X Connect 400 watt) and it ran for a while longer. as of currently it has random video flickers that are neither card or monitor related and it wouldnt post last night so I re seated the CPU and cleared the BIOS and it booted ok but now all USB ports are dead. is the motherboard toast? the CPU is an AMD 2500 Sempron and it has 512MB of generic ram

it's brand new (just got it replaced by msi under warranty), no accessories, just the board.

That could still be a bad power supply, or it could be a flaky board. If the voltages are off on the Ultra X-Connect or it is failing, this could happen. Swap in another power supply from a known good system if you can before declaring the board a problem. If it is still problematic, maybe your first power supply damaged the board. If you've put in a newer CPU, make sure you have the latest BIOS. Consider upping the CPU voltage by one increment from stock as well just for testing purposes.

I put one of these in my mom's system a few years back with an Athlon XP 1600+. It's now been running stably with an Athlon XP-M 2500+ at 2.3GHz (13 x 166) for six months, and the first month of that was on an Antec 300w unit. One of the best value mainboards I've ever bought.
 
I checked the PSU voltages and they are all within spec. the first PSU was a no name one with poor regualtion so damage wouldnt surprise me. I will check out the BIOS updates but are they hard? ive never updated BIOS before
 
since I'm being totally ignored, I'll just sell my nice working kt4v on ebay with an athlon xp 2000+ and 512 ram.

Did you check capacitors on it? MSI mobos knows to do that to you. I've repaired a bunch of those. Quality of these capacitors is really bad. Whole thing starts from "just" expanding and then leak all around, or even blow.

The result looks just how you described - unstable work, unable to boot, restarts often... you name it.

Fortunately, this problem is highly solvable. You just got to replace dead capacitors with new ones and that's all. I did it many times and always worked out pefectly. So, I advise you to do that, too. Of course, if problem is because of capacitors.
