dx11 aside, which has more gpu power

The 285's most likely.

If given a choice between the two, I would take the 560 any day.

It's hard to say no to DX11, perhaps you can find someone that would buy your 285s (if that's the case) and buy some 5XX series cards. With so many games still using DX9, you might actually be able to pull it off.

Dual 285s will outperform a single heavily overclocked GTX 560 TI in shader heavy games only when SLI is effectively utilized. A single GTX 560 TI offers more "reliable" performance though even if it's max shader throughput it lower.

just ran a test of my own yesterday

specs in sig,,

3dmark vantage

560ti oc stock clocks 21,037
gtx285's in SLI stock 24,438

3dmark03 within a few 100 points of each other, 3dmark01 285's killed it,

now that really surprised me, guess there is still life in these cards since most games are even still catering to dx9 users..

It's worth keeping in mind that having DirectX 10 hardware doesn't actually prevent you from playing DirectX 11 games. DirectX 11 includes provisions that make backward compatibility fairly trivial, with DirectX 11 itself being a strict superset of DirectX 10. Playing a DirectX 11 game on DirectX 10 hardware usually only means you miss out on a few DirectX 11 features such as Tesselation, but the game should otherwise still run great, with a majority of the feature set still available to you.

yeah I dont think its worth buying a new card everytime is a new DX, seems silly to me.

I think that it goes without saying that two of Nvidia's highest end last gen card will be faster than one of Nvidia's current mid range cards. Keep in mind a GTX480 performs about as well as a gtx295 on average.

This ^^^

I'd expect nothing less from 2 of nvidia's high end cards vs 1 mid range newer card.
