I know the 74gb raptors are a lot faster in raid than the dx10 16mb.

I was looking at the 200g dx10 16mb for a raid0 setup but the only thing I really intended to put on the raid setup is my OS, applications and games. I was going to keep music, movies, etc... on a back running by itself.

I was curious though if it would be worth it to put in a extra 20 dollars a drive and get 2 36gb raptors instead.

Im replacing all my ide drives and my budget for a raid0 and a backup drive is 300.

DM10 > WD360GD, period.

DM10 is faster, bigger, and cheaper. The WD360GD may run a little cooler, but it will certainly not be quieter with ~5ms seeks rumbling away. RAID-0 will not offset WD360GD's shortcomings either.

Larger: yes, Cheaper per MB: Yes, Faster: Not quite.

Storage Review Head to Head comparison
And in 3/4 of SR's single user drive marks, the DM10/MLIII delivers more IOps than WD360GD. Admittedly the gap is typically small, but a DM10 still is no performance compromise when compared to WD360GD, and has it all over WD360GD on everything else. WD360GD is a bad drive, period.

yea, i'd like to second that. 36GB raptors ARE an absolute waste of money. They aren't NEARLY as fast as the 74GB (relatively), that's why they are cheaper.

And 36 GB of windows AND games? How many games do you intend to have, two?

I have a DM10 myself (the 200gb version), and it is GREAT. Where do you get "dx10" from? DiamondmaX? lol.
