With firefox it totally crashes it. With IE, it just wouldn't work. Anyone know how to fix it?

Use ffdshow.
You need to explain more, its impossible to give a diagnosis with "totally crashes it" or "wouldn't work".

i dl klcodec470 and also tried the divx 7 package. However, everytime i play a divx movie in firefox, three grey stripes will appear at the bottom of the streaming video and then couple seconds later the browser crashes.

Dont use Firefox to watch divx movies.
Try media player classic.

You may be able to download the movies to play in MPC.
As you are streaming through the browser, the browser will be your player if you cannot download them.

Firstly, check their forums and FAQ to make sure that Firefox is a supported Browser.
Next make sure you have anything installed that they recommend in order to play the movies.

Failing that, uninstall and reinstall Firefox and any necessary extras.
Try their forums for help.

ok i'll try their forum, but i know they support ff cus it works on my friends computer. I've also done the other 3 suggestions you gave, still nothng
