Hi,
I was rooting around in my monitor Samsung SyncMaster930) manual, and got to wondering if it would make things better to switch from the analog (VGA) video to digital (DVI). I'd like your thoughts before I waste my money and go on the hunt for the needed cable.

Should I leave it alone at VGA or switch it over to DVI (digital)?

simply put DVI will give you a much better picture then VGA... go DVI and never look back...
 
LCD = DVI
CRT = VGA (BNC > VGA, Or even DVI-A)

No if ands or butts about it.
 
Is there actually a visual difference? I too am thinking about buying one becuase my LCD only came with a VGA cable.

I have a samsung 930b and I notice a big difference in color. DVI just blows away the DSUB connection
 
is it pointless to use a DVI hookup, to connect CRT, my card has both vga, and dvi and i got DVI converter thing.
 
lol i was about to ask the same question. I went ahead and tried to plug in my dvi-i to vga converter into my dvi outlet in my card but nothing happened, just a blank screen. soooo whats going on exactly?! :confused:
 
My LCD only came w/VGA cord, but my video card came w/ a VGA to DVI adapter, would that make any difference visually?
 
Well, IIRC, CRT's are analog, and you'd only use DVI if you have no analog output on your video card (there are some CRT's that have a DVI option natively though, IIRC)

With DVI (on an LCD) you never ever have to adjust quality, and supposedly it improves sharpness and color/picture quality. I can't tell you the difference though, because since I've had an LCD (about 2 months now), i've only used DVI.
 
I went ahead and tried it out after shutting down. It works now. But seriously, I can't tell if theres a difference. LOL stupid eyes. Hmmm.... Looks uhh clear and nice.... LOL :D
 
I had my dell 2005fpw hooked up with dvi from the start and it looked great. I'm now on break from college and forgot my dvi cable.. unfortunately dell uses some weirdo cable that can't be quickly replaced and i'm stuck with VGA. All I have to say is. WOW. Everything seems so blurry. I thank god I don't have to deal with it for more than 3 weeks.

where is a good place to get a good quality dvi cable? I would prefer to get a viewsonic one seeing as how i have a viewsonic monitor, monster also makes some but 80 bucks is too expensive for a cable imo.
