I'm using an Acer H233H monitor at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

I'm about to build a new rig with a Sapphire 6950.

I was wondering if what's the pros and cons of using DVI over HDMI and vice versa.

Which one is better?

Technically the signal should be same at that resolution, but I would use DVI. The reason being the DVI connector is more secure. Also sometimes the GPU will treat a HDMI connection differently, requiring additional configuration in the GPUs control center. DVI cable is also usually a standard accessory that comes with a monitor or GPU, while you will likely have to go out to buy a HDMI cable. Unless you need the cable to carry audio to your monitor.

Use the DVI.

HDMI is only useful if your monitor has speakers too, and if you're any [H], you won't be using them. :p

And thank you for the question, and the knowledgabe answers, I'm upgrading to a similar configuration and would have used the HDMI without even thinking why.
At least until the configuration silliness pissed me off. :D

When I got my first upconverting DVD player (for TV not PC) it had DVI. I really liked the security of the thumbscrews. Then when I first saw HMDI, I was like, where are the screws? Maybe even a little click lock like on a network cable?

Anyway, I just got my first HDMI / DVI monitor last month, and went with DVI for all the reasons limitedaccess listed.
