DVI vs Analog?

I plan on buying an LCD monitor for my new computer. Is having a DVI connection important for LCDs? What makes it so much better than analog and would it show a good improvement in picture quality for gaming and such? (I assume it's supported with the x800xl I'll be getting.)
 
I tried both the VGA and DVI inputs on my Dell 2001FP lcd , DVI did look better overall but it wasnt a very big differance (6800 GT videocard), although I found it odd that I couldnt adjust the monitors Contrast in DVI mode, I was able to get better black levels out of VGA mode because of it.

Well your LCD should come with a DVI cable, so you might as well use it. The quality difference really depends on the card and LCD though. On my 2405 and x800xtpe the VGA was horrible, it was very obvious that the DVI was better.
 
For me, DVI has been tons better than VGA on any LCD I've used. My 2405FPW looks a bit fuzzy (not so much fuzzy, but if you look real close, thin black lines have faint duplicates next to them) and washed out through the VGA on my 6600GT, but looks sharp and vibrant through the DVI output.
 
DVI r leet makes ur picture alot crisper and u dont get that fuzzy look that analog (d-sub) has for an lcd screen as far as a crt goes theres no real diffrence since really they dont make crts' with dvi plugs.... the vast majority of ways to use dvi with a crt is with an adapter in which no diffrence is noticeable. if ur planning to buy a lcd DVI is a must i dont know why anyone would want to use an analog plug'd lcd monitor
