dvi/vga ? reccomendations

i am going to be playing lots of games and i was wondering if dvi is better or regular vga is better. i need an lcd for my desk space and i know the screen looks much crisper. i was looking at a samsung model: 712n but it has vga. it is more affordable though. i was also looking at the 172x model which is a few hundred bucks more but has dvi and vga. i know there are lots of other brands that may be better.
im new to lcds so any reccomendations would be helpful! thnx
