dvi + vga question

i was wondering why its better to have dual dvi than to have one vga and one dvi? couldnt you just use a vga to dvi converter on the card that has only one dvi? (or the other way around)

im askin this because everybody seemed happy when they saw the nv40 pic, and it had two dvi connectors.

(yeah i know its a noob question)
