Do DVI to VGA Adapters affect the image quality in any way?

I am a bit puzzled about my 6800 ULTRA fuzziness and weird colours. Nothing really wrong but just not in the same league as my former 9700 and 9800 PRO cards? I am not running any digital vibrance since that feels like it would just more exaggerate the colours than it already is? And 2D in windows XP just don´t feel as sharp? It was better before loading the video card drivers actually which also feels weird?

Now my new monitor Philips 202P40 do have BNC connection too but is there any point in using it if the DVI to VGA adapter affects the image quality somewhat?

DVI to VGA is just that. Digital to analog. So, your only going to get as good as your monitor will do with analog, no better, no worse.

the DVI standard has built in RGB outputs build into the standard, the adapter isn't converting or loosing anything, its just adapting it(duh :) ). in my experience though the DVI RGB quality wasn't quite as good as the straight VGA port on my cards. its probably less of a priority.

Is that the same with all DVI or? I mean I got a 6800 ULTRA with only have DVI sadly and I hope nvidia don´t screw CRT people. Afterall CRT outclasses TFT for gaming so...

But my colours are all weird I really hope it´s not because the DVI to VGA adapter. Just want to make sure that can´t be an issue?

But TFT only support 18-bit colours right? So if so can DVI be less than perfect for CRT which have just about unlimited colours?

LCDs support 24-bit colors (Same as CRT minus the antiquated 8-bit alpha channel). I personally would never consider gaming on a CRT again, my 710T looks far better than CRTs do to me.

No CRT has better color reproduction and is way superior to LCD if you buy trinitron or Diamondtron. Seeing is believing ;).

But this is no TFT vs CRT thread it´s more about DVI vs VGA on CRT monitors :)

Get used to it my friend. Every major maker of CRT product wants out of CRT production as soon as possible. Mitsu dropped all CRT TV production back in 1998, looks like almost everyone is going to follow soon. Figure 2, three years tops and any "Brand name" CRT will be gone. Sad but true..

There will still be CRT for quite some time. It won't be cheap, and it won't be commonplace, but it will be there.

Until they make LCDs that sacrifice neither speed nor color-depth, CRT will have a niche.

Actually, I have a Trinitron sitting next to it as a secondary monitor and I prefer my LCD for gaming, and everything actually.

Yes each to their own of course but it would be more expensive gaming with LCD since you would had to upgrade video card more often to play at the optimized res :).

But LCD don´t work for me since I am mostly gaming and want the higher contrast, better colours and more resolutions and higher refresh rates because my stereo3d glasses. With all that I find it amazing that so many want TFT:s it´s a compromize after all. Thin and power saving while still being decent :).

But I did the right thing buying a new now then? It has a 4 year warranty so at least so long I will be able to keep it and it won´t become cheaper later on? Now this is not sold like Consumer products they are not even listed on Philips website but only in branch magazines for CAD and such so hopefully that CRT market will still be there. And that is where the really good CRT monitors are :).

But you don´t think CRT will generally become cheaper. 19" monitors cost nothing 22" cost twice as much and more there is a huge price difference between those I have found :/
