DVI Problems with ATI

I am using a Radeon 9600pro with a FlatPanel monitor. Ever since Catalyst revision 3.9 and up, the DVI Connector on the card would not work. When Windows starts, it BSODs (which I can't see because the monitor is shut off) and then reboots. About 1 in every 10 boots works successfully.

After yelling and screaming at ATI "techs," I forced them to create a website, although there is not much there:

My System will work with the newer drivers while connected through the VGA connector, which is curious. I am experienced and always uninstall before installing new drivers, I even format and start from scratch with no luck. Anyone else experiencing this problem or, even better, anyone experience this before and fix it?

BTW: I'm buying an NVidia as soon as I get paid!
 
Dude, I dunno whats going on but I know it isn't a constant problem, I got my g/f set up on an 8500LE 128MB using DVI on her Viewsonic VX500+ monitor, and its beautiful with no problems, and I think I have her on the 4.1 Cat's. If not, at least past 3.8 Cat's b/c I remember doing those.

Don't abandon ATI:( I would't consider going to any nVidia card an upgrade, especially since you are only going to do so to make the DVI functionallity on your monitor work. I figure if it works with the VGA, leave it like that and upgrade to another ATI when they start making the new cores.

Try plugging a cable into the DSub connector, it doesn't have to be connected to anything on the other end. I've heard this worked for some people who had similar problems with a 9600XT

Yes, if you have been having this problem (as stated in previous posts), you can resolve it and keep using your DVI connector AS LONG AS you have SOMETHING plugged into the VGA (or DSUB) connector on your video card. That something can either be another monitor OR a VGA cable, even though it is not plugged in to anything.

Plug in a cable (that is not attached to anything else) to the VGA connector on the video card and the DVI will work when Windows boots.

This works for me, does it work for you?

Even though this now works, I'm still buying NVIDIA.
