I have a nvidia fx 5200 video card that is connected to my Samsung sync master lcd screen via dvi. When I boot up the computer no picture is displayed and after a few seconds the monitor led begins to flash. I have a vga monitor and connected it to the vga port and the card seems to work fine...at times...I had to turn down the screen resolution and color bit in order to boot into windows.
Is it a possibility that my video card may be overheating?
please help
 
its doubtfull its overheating. Make sure your LCD is switching to the DVI port. It may be defaulting to getting a signal from the normal connector and not the DVI. I have seen some that do this and I have had to just power them off then on again. Maybe go into the LCD's OSD and see if there are any settings you can change.
 
i will look into it when i get home.
i also failed to mention that the lcd was workin fine a week ago. if i unplug the dvi cable from my video card i do get a 'signal unavailable' message so i guess that assures me that my monitor isnt totally cranked.
any other suggestions?
 
The sync master lcd does have a hd15 connector however i do not have a cable with hd15 connectors at both ends. i have tried my other monitor, which has a hd15 cable permanently attached to it, and i found i had to set the resolution to 800x600 16bit in order to boot into XP.
I did a little diggin on the net and found a similar situation here however he fails to mention specifically how he fixed the problem...
 
I just setup a computer with an MSI FX5200 just for the DVI feature. The person I built it for will be getting an LCD with DVI, so I'll be sure to add this thread to favorites and add my results after I get it setup.
 
Okay, it's been awhile, but I finally setup the machine I was talkin about...I'm not sure about you, but all I did was plug it into the DVI after the card was installed and it worked instantly...if yours does not, then you might wanna check ur monitor or your card...one needs returned/fixed :p
