I recently got a DVI cable for my monitor (Monster Cable) and ive noticed that when i turn my monitor off and on i get no signal, it only works when i first boot up. Does anyone have a fix for this??

I have this same problem. People have said trying the newest video drivers solves it, but it has not fixed the problem for me.

It helps if you see what display you have and what video card it's running. I had a similar DVI problem myself and googling around show that some cards has some issues with DVI and displays too. More notably is the ATI cards with a certain version of Catalyst drivers.

I am currently in 1680x1050 32bit, didnt work with the ATI Cat 7.2 or 7.3s (the newest).
I have a RMA # ready to send mine out, but i dont want to waste 20+ on shipping if its my video card :(

I had this happen when I had the wrong kind of DVI cable...
Sure you got the right one? Theres like..a DVI-D and a DVI-I or...whatever they are. Glad I could be so helpful...lol

Had any luck with that yet? I have the same Acer 2216WD connected via DVI and when powering off it gives the no signal unless I hot plug it, but its fine when the comp puts it in standby. I tried the latest ATI drivers where they say they fixed it but still no go.

Acer 2216WD connected via DVI-D to Raedon X700 SE on Catalyst 7.3 drivers

the monitor im using is a Sceptre x20wg naga. Also my video card is a Radeon X800XL. The DVI cable i got for it is a regular DVI Monster cable.

if you're experiencing this issue from boot, as well, try these:

1.) power down computer, completely. turn off monitor. turn monitor back on, then power on the computer. does the display stay black, say no input, no signal etc?

A: likely that your monitor is not capable of auto-sensing an input signal, and then switching to that source. you may have to go into the OSD and select the DVI connection as the default input, instead of the VGA (since that's what you were using before).

2.) power down computer, completely. turn off monitor. turn computer on, then turn on the monitor. do you see the image now?

A: your monitor does support auto-sensing, but you DVI may not be the default input, and thus, has to be hot-plugged, or the DVI has to be set as the new default (since you were previously on VGA cable).

Also, the manual, or tech support line (if you like being on hold), will provide more useful information, such as what features your screen supports, and the recommended order of operations for usage. It's going to take some effort on your part. There may be nothing wrong at all, with the card, the cable, or the screen. Could be as simple as a particular order of execution.

I tried both of those and they both booted. What is hot-plugging?. Also im pretty sure its default because it says DVI as input in the OSD.

I should point out that I have seen two completely different models do this due to heat - it will hold the signal while turned on, but as soon as you turn it off and then try to turn it back on, you get a black screen. Leave it off for a while to cool down, and all is fine. I've concluded this is just something LCDs do - it's certainly not a driver issue in my case.

By black screen do you mean the screen doesn't even display its OSD? In my case it comes up with the message 'No Signal' after powering it off then on, then just goes into standby. The only thing I can do now is let the computer put it into standby, so then it says 'No Signal' and does the same thing as before except it can be woken up by moving the mouse/etc. Is there a command I can use to force Windows (XP) to put the monitor into standby without waiting whatever time is set in the Power Settings tab in Display Properties?

In my case I get a picture for a second or so, a high-pitched noise and then the screen turns off (power light still on, no picture or OSD). I've had this with two Viewsonic VP2030bs and a friend's LG - he modded it to include a fan on the back which resolved his issue.
