I have a pioneer rear projection TV
the only HD hookup looks like the connection on a video card
It's marked "RGB for HD only"
I want to run the new DVD players with DVi or HDMI outputs

do they make a DVi or HDMI to RGB cable?
if so got link>?

Short answer: you cannot do it with a simple converter cable

That's because DVD players are equipped with DVI-D or HDMI ouputs which transmit a pure digital signal, and your TV has an RGB input which is pure analog. You would need a DVI to RGB transcoder, which start around $100. Or you could use an htpc.

You were probably thinking of DVI-I, which carries both an analog and digital signal within the cable (has seperate pins for both). Unfortunately i have yet to see any recent DVD player that outputs via DVI-I (not including an htpc of course).

thanks
I was afraid of that

Where can I get one of the transcoders, and is it even worth it?

I can setup a HTPC pretty easily
will the DVD playback be "as good" (or better) as a decent DVD player

P3 1Ghz., 1 gig of RAM
I have NVDVD and PowerDVD playback software,
and a 5900XT vid card
think thats up to snuff?

transcoder is not worth it. I woul djust use the VGA connection and an HTPC.

if your options are svideo or vga, a p3 1ghz and a 5900xt over vga will be better than a decent DVD player over svideo on most dvd's.
