LCD is the Sceptre NagaIII X20 20.1" 8MS widescreen monitor.

When it worked: X1900XTX
When it stopped working: X850XT AGP
Tested with a 9800PRO and same problem.
Tested with X1800XT and same problem.

I am using the dongle using VGA from the monitor to the video card's DVI ports and the LCD works just fine, so it means the DVI ports on my cards work fine.

The DVI used to work just fine in Windows.. but now, it only works fine during BIOS and Windows XP logo loading screen, but as soon as it goes in Windows, the monitor loses signal. I hooked up my CRT to make sure there were no problems with the Hz being set too high, but no, it doesn't even pick up the DVI from the LCD. As soon as I try to click on the second monitor button under Display Manager in CCC, it refuses to detect. It leaves me gobsmacked that DVI works fine and displays the BIOS, POST and WinXP loading logo. Any ideas?

Well since it displays the BIOS, screen and loading windows screen, and those run at 60hz "refresh", then it still sounds like it is an issue with the display being fed too high of a hz signal....have you tried hooking up a crt in windows, setting the refresh to 60hz at a resolution the LCD is capable of, then unhooking the CRT and swapping in the LCD....that way windows does not try to "redetect" the swapped in display. If the monitor is OK, that method will show you if the DVI is indeed working correctly.

The LCD does not know the difference between a BIOS screen and a windows desktop, so it would not turn itself off unless something else changed between BIOS startup and Windows loading completely....

I already stated in my original post that I tested with a CRT to see if Hz rate was too high, and tried what you said. Disconnecting the VGA w/ dongle and then plugged in the DVI shortly after. It plainly won't work. This is too weird. Once the video's card drivers are installed, Windows doesn't display worth a damn. I'm going to test the monitor on an NVIDIA card (FX5500) once I get back home from my uncle's 30th anniversary party. Adios.

As I stated, you appear to be trying to run DUAL monitors, i.e., both of them (crt and LCD) at the same time. Have you ran ONLY the CRT, set it to 60hz at say, 800x600, then unplugged the CRT and replaced it with the LCD, that way you KNOW the LCD is being fed a 60hz signal?

Don't go gettting all pissy, you asked for help, and your original post seems a bit rough as to HOW you tried to determine the issue....since the LCD is working in BIOS and loading screens, the LCD is not defective. As I stated, the LCD does not know the difference between the BIOS screen and the Windows desktop, it just displays whatever is sent to it. When windows loads fully to the desktop, it obviously is changing to a different refresh rate that the display cannot handle, so it turns off (as it is supposed to).

Again, does not sound like a monitor problem, it appears to be a vid card and/or driver issue....

Oh, no, I'm not even pissed. I'm not frustrated. I'm sorry if you thought I was yelling at you. It's simply a confusion and something a little hard to believe. Yup, I tried only the CRT, 60, already done that. Even when PC's still running, still the same. It seems as if DVI doesn't like 60Hz anymore. Right now I'm still using the LCD, of course, under VGA with dongle. I just got back home, so I'm going to try plugging this DVI to the Nvidia card. I'll be surprised if it works on my mom's computer. Brb with results.

EDIT: I'm on my ma's PC. Yup, DVI works for sure... guess my LCD doesn't really like ATI cards or something...even though it's always been set to 60Hz, 32 bit color, nothing different from this PC...

Sorry, I thought you jumped all over me hahaha....damn hard to tell on the net sometimes when you can't hear an actual "tone" of voice... ;)

Have you tried a different version of the ATI driver?

Doesn't work with 6.6 and 6.7 that I just DLed yesterday. I can't use too old drivers with the x1800xt, think I should try using the drivers that come on the CD? Ill try Omegadrivers.

Still the same. Does anyone not have the same experience and wish to tell me how to resolve this?

I have the same monitor and a X1900XT and DVI is working fine for me. Is it possible that you have a bad DVI cable? Nevermind, fogot that you have a BIOS and Windows loading screen. Try clean the driver form the system and then reinstalling it.

Sorry to have resurrected an old thread, but this had me curious as to whether the op found a solution.

my uncle has a sceptre lcd and the stupid thing shows the desktop for a split second then turns itself off. i tried every single res and hz possible and it never worked. he bought a diffrent lcd and stuck his sceptre in a corner. i told him to rma it but he never did even after i gave him all the info needed to. i tried the drivers for it and on 3 diffrent pc's and it still wouldnt ever keep the display on. his monitor only has the normal VGA input tho.

would be nice if there was an easy fix for it i could get a free monitor lol. hes had it sitting in the corner of his living room for a year. its past its rma period of 1 year.

that is a pretty wierd problem, but it is def. a driver/card problem and not a problem with the panel since it does work for bios/loading screen.

I have the same monitor and have never had any problems with it on ati or nvidia cards

Yeah.. and don't worry about resurrecting a old thread, it's not that relatively old :p

Nope, I have yet to find a solution, it only works on computers sporting Nvidia cards and yesterday I did a clean install of Windows, and used DVI through the entire installation and installing chipset drivers, but video card drivers last, enjoyed 1680x1050 on DVI before installing the video card drivers. This is seriously fucking stupid.

I think I may have to RMA this monitor.

Dear Customer,

Connect both DVI with a VGA adapter and another cable to DVI. So your
20" monitor has both DVI and VGA connected. Use the ATI's catalyst
control center menu. In there, there should be a DVI enabler /
detection function. Try to enable DVI through that side, thanks.

They're telling me to plug both VGA and DVI to the same video card? The way I remember it, plugging both to the same video card could fry the DVI controller. lol

No not on this monitor it won't. The DVI and VGA are two separate inputs that are auto selected depeinding on what's plugged in.

When you monitor's DVI signal cuts out it should auto switch to VGA and you'll see windows, Then enable DVI like they said and it should auto switch back. If it doesn't then hit the button next to the power button and should swtich inputs.

Well, guess it really doesn't like ATI cards. THere is absolutely no option in the tree on the left saying "Digital Panel". The mystery still stands.
