DVI not working on 2005FPW!!

I just got my 2005FPW yesterday and am trying to hook it up to my PC via the DVI output on my PC but I always get a message saying that there's no signal and the monitor has gone into powersave mode...

The VGA and composite connections work fine, but I obviously want to use DVI. I have a Bloody Monster FX5200 128 MB PCI card (yah I know it's crap but I gotta use it for the time being)...I'm using the DVI cable that came with the monitor...are those cables standard? What's the diff btw DVI-Sub and DVI-D??

I've tried updating the drivers for the card as well as installed the drivers for the LCD from the CD that it came with. Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions?

Do you mean D-sub? or DVI-sub? if it's D-sub that uis your normal VGA connector, DVI-D would be for your DVI.
 
It's the DVI-D that's not working.

I'm currently using the D-sub (vga) running off my fx5200 to hook it up to my monitor.

Forgot to add that I don't have another LCD which I can try to hook up to my PC to test if the DVI-D connector works...
 
have you turned the computer and monitor both off before installing the dvi cable? i dont have an lcd w/ dvi, but i think i read somewhere that in order for dvi to work you first have to turn it all off, plug them in, then boot up.
 
i think you have to switch to view number "2" for DVI. Otherwise call dell, because in my opinion DVI is the best for lcd.

I also have a MSI FX5200 128MB, and it works fine with DVI
 
I originally had very similar troubles viewing my 2005 on my Ti4200 card's DVI port, and I don't remember the exact steps, but I did something along these lines:

1) unplug everything from the video card (incl any TV-out)
2) disable any "2nd display" in your video settings (either clone or extend) <- important
3) install the drivers from the CD
4) turn off PC
5) plug in 2005 to DVI port
6) boot in safe mode (it SHOULD show up now through DVI)
7) "uninstall" default monitor in control panel>hardware
8) reboot PC
9) check display settings if your monitor is now called "2005FPW Digital"
10) enjoy screen through DVI
 
Aren't the drivers on the Dell CD nothing more than recent ATI and Nvidia graphic card drivers?
 
Yes it does have NVidia/ATI drivers, but i meant the "inf" file driver for the monitor itself.
 
thanks for all the replies guys.

here is what I just tried...

took out video card and put it into another dell...then connected the DVI-D cable to the Video card and hooked up the other end to an older IBM LCD...booted comp and got a message saying to check the signal/no output...

I then connected the DVI-Sub to that LCD and booted the PC and everything came up on the display..basically this to me confirms that my DVI port on my vid card is toast..unless someone else thinks otherwise..

Stevie I will try what you suggested when I get home but I'm not holding out much hope at this point.

Print out my steps and try it. I thought my DVI port was toast, too... but as it turned out, it was just some kind of driver confusion with my 2nd monitor (tv output). I also reinstalled my video drivers to the latest NVidia ones. You should do that as well...
 
just tried what you said and got the same result as before..I don't have any second outputs and when I go into display properties-->Settings, I only have one monitor there.

also updated to the latest nvidia drivers and found another copy of the Dell drivers for this monitor..When I go into device manager-->monitor-->it says "dell 2005FPW (analog)...

also tried a different DVI cable with no success..
 
It may well be your video card's DVI is toast... RMA?
