I've been running my TV from my Macbook Pro via a converter to a VGA cord, and it looks okay, considering the low resolution.

However, I thought it'd look sharper if I skipped the conversion and ran it straight from the DVI port to the HDMI port on my TV.

Big mistake. No amount of calibration could make it look less hideous. Does anybody know why that is?

VGA looks 100x better then DVI->HDMI

Something's wrong with your tv, macbook, or converter. DVI > HDMI requires no conversion. They're the same thing.

Your TV may not be setup to handle normal pc resolutions over hdmi or component. Some TV's will only take it over the VGA plug.

I'm aware. The conversion I was talking about was the DVI port on my computer to the VGA port on my TV. There is no converter with the digital setup.

The cord I'm using is a DVI male to HDMI male.

I guess I'm stuck with VGA then :(

Yeah, no real point in using the DVI port to output to a VGA port...it's still the same old VGA signal carried over the analog signalling pins in DVI.

Yep, thats the case. Also remember, that if your tv is farther than 2 meters away from your computer, the DVI cable will lose signal strenght fast. After that picture looks bad.
