I purchased a Monster DVI400 2m cable. It's a single-link DVI-D cable, and I want to use it on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor. I'm a bit confused because on the package it says it supports 720p and 1080i but doesn't mention 1080p. Is there some reason for this?

Probably because monster wants you to buy a more expensive cable. However any single link DVI cable is fine for 1920x1200. I'm using one right now for just such a purpose. DVI-D spec is very simple: Each link is limited to 165MHz. That's enough to do 1920x1200 @ 60Hz @ 8-bit (16.7 million) per channel colour. You only need a dual link if you wish to go to a higher resolution (dual link is good up to 2560 × 1600 @ 60 Hz) or if you have a monitor that supports more than 8-bits per channel colour (in which case the other link carries the additional colour data).

Also please note: For short distances, like under 3 metres DVI cable quality doesn't matter at all. Buying an expensive cable gets you nothing but a lighter wallet. If you are using a longer run, don't buy a monster cable, buy form somewhere like Bluejeans Cable or Datapro. They'll sell you a high quality long cable for a reasonable price.

However for short distances, just use whatever DVI cable you get cheap and it should work just fine.

Alright, thanks for the reply. I didn't want to open it yet in case I was missing something. It was pretty cheap, only $9,50 at amazon.

i thought single link dvi cables only work up to 1280 x 800
No, deffinitely not!! You are thinking of some 30" screens that can only go up to 1280x800 when using a normal (single link) DVI but that is simply because the monitors have rubbish scaling electronics.

No I'm using a single link DVI cable right now for 1920x1200, works beautfully.
