DVI-D or HDMI to VGA?

Anyone know what's the cheapest way to have VGA from a board that only output HDMI/DVI-D?

Adapter won't do since this bloody thing only output digital.
Active converter cost an arm/leg.
No slot for vga card.

Digital to Analog requires active conversion. That said, if you don't care about performance, you could get a USB video adapter.
