Hello everybody.
I have a small problem, and i have no idea how could i fix it.
I purchased a new monitor,Samsung T240HD.Everything it's ok under windows, but when i run Linux ,i just set the native resolution which is 1920 * 1200 ,and my monitor start to blink every 30-40 seconds.Every Linux distro, even LIVE CD's.Anyway...
The cable is DVI D Single Link on monitor, and DVI D Single Link on videocard.
When i change the cable to DVI D Single to videocard, and VGA to monitor, everything it's okay under Linux,no more blinking on monitor, but i don't wanna switch to DVI-VGA because some people said,DVI-DVI has better signal ,and so on,but honestly i DO NOT SEE ANY DIFFERENCE.
The cable which cames along with the monitor,is actually DVI-D Single Link (both ends),but the slot behind the monitor is /support DVI D Dual Link.
Now i have few questions,i hope i'll get some help here.
1) Should i buy another cable? I mean DVI D Dual Link ? If the answer is "yes",please tell me what about the other end of the cable, what goes into the video card.DVI-D Dual Link as well? The videocard is PNY Nvidia GTX 285.Someone told me that would fix my problem under Linux.
2) Should i try HDMI (monitor) to DVI videocard?
3) What's the difference actually, between DVI-D Dual Link and DVI D Single Link?
4) If i leave it DVI - VGA,would i have some disadvantages? I mean colours /image quality /
sharpness / clear image / would be worst with DVI -VGA than DVI-DVI ?
I'm sorry for so many questions.Any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance.

VGA can indeed approach DVI quality when all the parts are good quality. Since you notice no difference visually, just using VGA is probably the simplest solution.

You don't need Dual-Link at all on a 60Hz 1920x1200 monitor. Dual-Link DVI doubles the bandwidth, allowing higher resolutions and Hz, but your monitor can't display those anyway.

Your problem with DVI is possibly an EDID problem. Googling for "T240HD edid linux" seems to suggest that read-edid may be of help, but I don't know anything about linux.

HDMI EDID problems are more common than DVI EDID problems, so trying HDMI might not help.

"VGA can indeed approach DVI quality when all the parts are good quality"
What do you mean with that?
I don't use the PC for video/foto editing.
Is there a difference between black-white colours with dvi-dvi and dvi-vga?
The only small difference i noticed is the sharpness, but if i setup in the monitor menu the contrast /brightness and sharpness,i get it very very very close as DVI-DVI.
I don't know,but i think the dvi "idea" it's just 95 % marketing .

DVI is indeed better than VGA on a digital display because with DVI the signals path goes like this: GPU render (digital) > DVI cable (Digital) > LCD (Digital)
But under VGA it goes like this: GPU Render (Digital) > Converted to Analogue > VGA cable (Analogue) > converted to digital > displayed on monitor.

So those two conversions cause a quality loss but some monitors scalers are good enough that this doesn't make a visible difference except in sharpness, but in bad ones it's terrible. In your case VGA is just going to be the simplest solution.
