DVI adapter question?

If I had a regular VGA cable with a DVI adapter on each end, would it be the same or very close to the same as having just a one piece DVI cable?

I'm asking because I already have one VGA to DVI adapter and am wondering whether I should just buy another adapter for the other end of the cable, or a brand new DVI cable?
 
I say no, also having adapters on a cable can cause loss of video quality.
