The famous “DVD sniffing dogs”, used by the MPAA to sniff out DVDs, have made their second big discovery of pirated movies. The dynamic duo sniffed out 150,000 pirated DVDs hidden in a secret compartment that had been missed earlier by police during a raid.

Lucky and Flo, two black Labradors, sniffed out at least 150,000 discs in a secret compartment in a shop in the capital on Saturday after anti-piracy officials, acting on a tip-off, raided the place but failed to find anything, the New Sunday Times said.

Ahh the MPAA's personal tool paid for by the government

Local media say movie pirates have put a bounty on the dogs after the hounds busted a fake DVD ring last month

LOL!

What happens when they start storing them on hard drives?

Fly them through customs - then burn the folders to disc AFTER they pass through security.

So they spend all this money to train dogs to smell discs - now there was a bust so what's next? Hmmm...

What do you mean? Sure they can store the movies on a hard drive, but they still have to burn them to discs to sell them, and it wouldn't be practical if they did it to order. :p

I say we just kill the dogs so we can read about other stuff in the news.

Wonder what kind of dog food they eat? That might have already been put in motion already with all that poison food going around.

I guess you could pack the fake discs with marjuiana or coke or something to throw off the "disc sniffing" dogs... Of course that might present other problems... :D

I would imagine that coating the discs or discs of a different chemical composition could throw off the dogs as well. What does a fake disc smell like, and how does it smell different from a regular disc?

Time to order 1 million blank disks and have those dogs sniff them out. I wonder if ordering blank disks equals guilt of pirating...

Now this would be fun... run around to all the home construction sites you can find, toss in a few bad disks or just cheap blank disks in some crevice, opening, or hidden location that would be covered later by the builders...

wait a few years, enjoy! I can just see it now "Pirate searching dogs caused entire home to be torn up for a blank disk"

Wait, couldn't you put your disks in a tub with water or gel/chemical? Burn your disks and toss them in water.

A dog's nose is a million times more sensitive than a man's. I bet they can tell the difference between a blank disc and a disc that's been stamped/burned.

*Thinks of the many times I farted around my dog*... *poor dog*

The penalty for drug possession in Malaysia is either life in prison with regular lashing or death. Which do you think they would want to do?

I was on vacation in Malaysia 2 years ago and took pictures of their malls. Some malls have an entire floor dedicated to pirated stuff. I'll see if I can get my pictures and post it on the board.

Correct, and they are very easy to deal out death to those with drugs instead of prison sentences.

I don't think their noses are quite that strong. I think bloodhounds are about 1,000x stronger.

No different than when I was in Hong Kong and China. In Hong Kong, there are actually some efforts by ICAC to bust such activity (it's also tied to the triads), but there are still places that are basically 2-3 floors of pirated movies, software, pr0n, music, etc.

Hell, the cops I'm sure know about it, and they like to scare them once in a while (which forces everyone to close down within 5 seconds, it's hilarious), but I'm sure that off hours, those same cops are there looking for stuff to buy. :p

Just surround the discs with beggin' strips or something. The dog will flip out, and customs will be like "Whatever, it's just bacon for dogs." :D

Actually I kinda lied. One million might be...low. :D

Dogs can sense odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans can.

It would have been a funny April Fools joke to fill a suitcase up with blank DVD's Sharpie labeled with movie names, then pull it through the airport and accidently have it bust open in front of security. :p I doubt they would even do anything though. haha. Then again, you could find yourself at the mercy of DHS. :D

I must say pirated stamped dvds or cds have a very distinctive smell. You'll have to smell it to believe it.
