dvd-rw trouble

okay iv got a sony dvd rw dw-d22a drive and i just bought aload of dvd-rw and inside the dvd-r's it says, that because the disks are 16x, i will need to upgrade my dvd drives firmware, iv googled but i carnt find anything about it.

the drives not listed on the sony site so i did a serch and it says my drive is a Sony DRU-710A (rebadged LiteOn SOHW-1633S/1653S) im not sure why its different tho, i think the drive iv got is OEM.

so how can i update the firmware for this drive? so that i can burn on to 16x disks

if it in fact is a liteon drive, go to liteonit.com, download appropriate firmware and try flashing it...that's what I would do.. just don't blame me if you follow my suggestion and something goes wrong

Shouldn't you still be able to use the discs by burning them at a lower speed?

just burn at a slower speed.

your burning app should detect max write speed and adjust accordingly. Unless you just have to have it burn at the max speed then flash. but alot can go wrong when flashing and if ti goes wrong you are buying a new drive.
