DVD+RW/-RW Drive Not Working

I have a Pioneer DVD+RW/-RW Drive.
I recently attempted to copy a movie of mine to see if it worked. I have never used it before this. I used a blank Maxell DVD-R Data/Video disc. The copied disk only plays on my computer. Not in my DVD player in the living room. Other copied movies play there though. I am confused. Could it be the Maxell disc I used? Should I use a video only disc? I'd hate to go out and buy more CD's and waste money.
The DVD drive works fine playing movies, games, loading software, etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

well it might be that you're burning in a wrong format.. but I'm not sure - I don't have a DVD burner..

Thanks for the help. I bought some DVD-R instead of DVD+R discs and it's working perfectly.
