i have a liton 401S or 411s. i believe is 401s though cant remember, and im at work. its a 4x dvd+rw burner. for some reason i only have the option to burn at 2.4x and i would like to be able to burn a 1x. are these drives not capable of it and why am i not burning at 4x

I would also say it is most likely the media that you are burning on. With the DVD +-RW's and +- R's when they say 2x most programs will read a code off the CD and will only allow you to burn at that speed and no faster, but you should be able to burn slower if the program/hardware suports that.

thats the thing, its 4x media that came with the burner, i would think that woudl be capable. and im not sure if the burner burns a lower speeds, i just thought it was kind of a given, or am i wrong.

Did you enable DMA on that ide channel becouse i know alot defult to PIO and its alot slower?

gunna have to check. thought its enabled but dont know. just need to burn something thats sensitive to burning, and was reccomended to burn it at 1x.
