I have Vista 32bit and every time I put in a DVD disk the DVD-rom it disappears from my Computer, my drive just spins with the disk in but nothing happens I have uninstall Nero think this will be the problem but it not,

I have searched the net and everyone is having the same problem as me I would like to know if any of you have fixed this problem? I would like to play my game but I can’t because of the DVD-rom it worked before I don't understand I even changed over the drive.

I have the ASUS DRW-2014L1T

I will hate to say this but if I can’t fix it I will have to go back to XP I have tried to go in the Regedit to fix it and still I have the problem. I don't want to return to XP but it is Forcing me to return no email from MS and no Hotfix.:mad:

Are you saying that, without a disc in the drive, that Vista (at times) can recognize the drive? If so, try updating the firmware.

It may also be easier to get a different drive, like the Samsung SH-S203B or Lite-On 20A1S, than to revert to Windows XP.

I have update the ASUS firmware I download it but it don't install and I still have problems

My meaning is eveytime I put a Disk in the drive the DVD-rom disappears from my Computer and vista can't see it but when I take out the disk I see my DVD-rom drive.

Try moving the drive to another IDE channel
I'm not sure this applies, but it might have something to do with ATAPI? Does that still get used by Vista? I had dissapearing issues on my laptop before, I had to do some ATAPI-fix thing once.

@MrkXCeL

I have a SATA DVD-Rom not IDE, and what's ATAPI ??

I have just change over the SATA cable that I use for the HDD and put a new one on so far it's working.
