OK, so I want to be able to make digital copies of all of my DVD's and throw them on my HTPC so I can watch movies without having to screw around with disks. RIght now, I can rip with DVD shrink and then re-encode with Pinnacle Plus, but the process takes for freakin ever...

Does anyone have any recommendations for software that does it in one shot? Are there any free/open source ripping software out there for it?

AnyDVD

DVDshrink
DVDfab

rip them to either VOBs or ISOs

I personally use the trail version of DVDfab (since its free)

+1

i rip them with the free dvdfab @ 1:1 ratio works great with VMC., takes maybe 20mins per disk.

dvdshrink will re-encode to smaller sizes. leave it in the original vob format and windows media center can play it just like the dvd is in the drive.

btw- make sure you have http://www.dvd43.com/ installed if you don't have anydvd. dvd43 is basically a free knockoff of anydvd

i use anydvdhd for bluray. dvdfab for standard dvd. for dvdfab i now rip the movie with no compression. i cant stand all the previews and extra menu crap they put in there now, i just wanna watch the damn movie. :)

that pinnacle software is no doubt making your movies look like crap. use the mce player with the ffdshow and cccp codec packs. if you have an nvidia card then get the nvidia purevideo decoder. for bluray you still need powerdvd ultra.

I have an ati card (see sig).
Yea, the pinnacle was downgrading quality pretty bad.
Itried dvdfab, it works awesome. I never knew wmp would play .iso files...

Thanks!

I use AnyDVD for 1:1 copies. Looks great and with the price of storage there is really no need to compress

DVD Decrypter.
It takes like ~10-15 min to rip the whole DVD, and it's incredibly easy to use
