I recently flashed my Pioneer DVR 104 drive with the lastest firmware (1.41). This drive's firmware required an upgrade to at least 1.32 in order to use 4x media without damaging the drive.

I quickly found out that I was not able to use the drive when I attempted to burn a DVDVideo disc--Nero 6.0 (version I initally used) would lock up and could not be forced to close. I tried to flash back to the previous firmware version, but that isn't possible.

I uninstalled the older version of Nero and installed 6.3.16. I also uninstalled PowerDVD4 and reinstalled it. I was then able to burn a few DVD's without my system locking up--and the Powerdvd software was able to playback the disc (before, the burned dvd and the original dvd played back garbled video).

Well, I'm back to square one again. The minute I try to burn a disc, Nero just locks up and the drive is unresponsive. i thought it might be the Riteck media, however, one of the dvds I burned sucessfully was using a Riteck dvd. I'm stumped here. Looking at the system logs reveal this error:

Well, I think the fimware flashing has hosed the Pioneer DVR-104 drive. I've tried to run Nero's Infotool to get some specs/info and without fail, it causes my computer to blue svrean with the "IRQ driver not equal or grater than" error--not a good sign. I unplugged the drive and then tried to run the Nero InfoTool program--runs without a hitch. I'm thinking that reflashing it might help--but Pioneer's software won't allow me to reflash the drive with the current (or previous) firmware version. Anyone know of a program that is compatible and not so picky?
