I am thinking of purchasing an NEC dvd burner. The only reason is because I want great dvd quality. I already have a Hitachi dvd rom drive. The Hitachi is from 2000 or 2001. 5 or 6 years old. Will a new NEC drive give me any better visual quality or will it be the same. I don't want to waste my money of course buying a drive if it is not necessary. I am using cyberlink powerdvd all the time for dvd watching. I only use dvd drive to watch the movies I buy. I use cyberlink powerdvd 5. Should I movie up to version 7? To me it seems like my geforce 4200 gave me better dvd quality less pixelated not as good gaming quality. Whereas my new BFG Nvidia Geforce 6800 GS 256mb AGP gives me great gaming quality but more pixelated dvd quality. Or is it just me? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

DVD drives shouldn't be doing any processing of the video on a disc, it should just transmit the data, which would then be processed by the software or video card. As long as your DVD drive is fast enough to deliver the data to the system, there shouldn't be any change in quality. I don't know what would be considered fast enough for a computer, I'd think think even 4x would be more than fast enough if for some reason 1x wasn't. My advice would be to try a different player before you try a different drive. Get VLC and see how that works.
